Last Sunday, the famous Champs-Elysees street in Paris was turned into a big venue for a
special spelling event, which lasted 6 hours. The event set a new world record for the largest
spelling contest ever, up to 5,000 people taking part at the same time. The event had three rounds.
Each round had a different theme, including classic French writing, recent French writing, and
writing about sports, which were respectively read out by journalist Augustin Trapenard, writer
Katherine Pancol, and player Pierre Rabadan. While the texts were read, the participants tried to
write down what they heard. A big screen was set up in the street. After the texts were read, they
were shown on the screen for participants to check their work. Not a single participant managed
to write an entire text with zero errors. A retired old lady made two mistakes. The best result was
one mistake. Marc-Antoine Jamet, president of the Champs-Elysees Committee, said, “The event
