23-year-old Rachna Kumari is a soft-spoken young woman selling her handmade wheat stalk
paintings, a traditional cultural art form using natural wheat straw. Every morning, even before her
mother awakens, she finishes cooking and cleaning before cycling 5km to run her shop alone. Over
the past years, she has sold about 200 of her paintings.
However, back in 2019, Rachna almost gave up on life after having to leave school due to
family’s financial problems. She became depressed, thinking she would have to spend the rest of her
days doing household chores.
Around this time, the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) came into the picture with Project Lehar,
starting to provide vocational training, and courses on entrepreneurship (创业) and life skills for
young women. Project Lehar, run by AKF in partnership with The King’s Trust International, an
organisation founded to tackle the crisis of youth unemployment, enables girls and young women
from disadvantaged backgrounds to rediscover and realise their potential. This was a good
opportunity for Rachna not just to continue her studies but also to convince her parents to drop her
marriage plans.
After she was admitted into college through Project Lehar, she was also given some suggestions
on entrepreneurial and career prospects. One such session regarding wheat stalk painting made her fall
in love with this traditional art form and her creativity was brought out.
Now she is economically independent by selling wheat stalk paintings. However, Rachna is not
resting on her achievements. Her shop also doubles up as a training centre where other girls from
disadvantaged backgrounds like her who want to stand on their own feet get a second chance to
change their lives like she did.
While teaching these enthusiastic young girls is a joyful experience, what gives Rachna more
pride is being chosen as a wheat stalk painting trainer by the foundation. From being a trainee under
this project to now becoming its qualified trainer, Rachna’s life has come full circle.
24. What left Rachna in low spirits initially?
A. Losing her favourite job. B. Doing household chores.
C. Dropping out of school. D. Running the shop by herself.
25. How did Rachna benefit from Project Lehar?
A. She got a degree from it. B. She had a new attitude towards marriage.
C. She managed to proceed with her studies. D. She was sponsored to start her own business.
26. What brings Rachna the greatest sense of achievement?
A. Expanding her business scale. B. Being selected as a trainer.
C. Financing disadvantaged families. D. Teaching ambitious girls.
27. Which of the following best describes Rachna?
A. Motivated and creative. B. Wealthy and independent.
C. Sociable and critical. D. Talented and modest.

The benefits of free time, researchers say, depend upon our beliefs about it. A new study reveals that
contentment relies, at least in part, on believing that leisure activities are anything but a waste of time.
According to the study, viewing leisure as wasteful prevents us from enjoying our leisure
pursuits — especially pure pleasure activities such as hanging out with friends, watching TV and just
relaxing. More goal-driven leisure activities, like exercise and meditation (冥想) tend to make people
feel productive so they are still enjoyed when people see value in these leisure activities.
In one part of the study, the researchers asked 302 people to recall what they did for Halloween,
how much they enjoyed the holiday and their attitudes towards leisure in general. Those who believed
leisure was wasteful enjoyed their Halloween less, especially when they engaged in activities like
going to a party compared to other activities that might be fun but might also fulfil responsibilities,
like trick-or-treating with their kids.
In another part of the study, participants read news articles meant to convince the reader that
leisure was wasteful and unproductive or leisure was important and productive. Next, they watched
the “Best Funny Cat Videos 2019” and were asked how much they enjoyed it. Those who believed
that leisure was wasteful or unproductive didn’t enjoy watching the videos as much as those who
thought leisure time was productive and important.
The results show that those who do not enjoy pleasure-driven activities are more depressed,
anxious and stressed. The findings suggest happiness may be driven not only by whether people
engage in leisure, but whether they find value in what they are doing.
“Attitudes are no easy to change. Therefore, it may be impossible to shift beliefs about leisure
overnight,” said the lead author Gabriela Tonietto. “For the people who refer to leisure as wasteful, it
helps to focus on the productive ways that individual leisure activities can serve their long-term goals.”
28. Why did some participants enjoy their Halloween less?
A. They had a strong passion for parties.
B. They considered trick-or-treating boring.
C. They preferred hanging out with friends.
D. They attached great value to responsibilities.
29. What is the purpose of asking the participants to read the news articles?
A. To shape their attitudes to leisure. B. To assess their reading skills.
C. To introduce them to cat videos. D. To examine their productivity.
30. What is Tonietto’s suggestion on leisure?
A. Seeking its potential benefits. B. Diversifying the forms of leisure.
C. Reducing engagement in leisure. D. Changing our attitudes to leisure quickly.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Pursuing Leisure Tops the List.
B. Enjoying Leisure Boosts Productivity.
C. Designing Leisure Activities Brings Contentment.
D. Considering Leisure Wasteful Reduces Happiness.

Be honest: how many things you bought because of product promotion on TikTok did you
actually need? In response, social media users are pushing back against unnecessary spending. This is
where “de-influencing” comes in, a new TikTok trend that challenges the hype (炒作) around popular
products and overconsumption. It aims to change the way we think about shopping and encourage
people to pause and consider whether they really need something, rather than just buying it because it
is trendy or popular.
Recently, there have been many TikTok influencers that have frustrated people. They are
promoting products that seem misleading, especially during tough times when money is tight. For
example, US influencer Mikayla Nogueira posted a TikTok using L’Oral’s Telescopic Lash Lift
Mascara but was blamed for wearing false eyelashes in her review as part of a paid partnership.
Makeup artist Rose Gallagher notes, “People are feeling tired of social media. Originally, user content
was popular because it shared honest thoughts on personal purchases. Now, it’s hard to tell which
reviews are genuine and which are just for profit.” Thus, what TikTok says is no longer the standard
of people’s purchase choices. De-influencing emerged accordingly.
While de-influencing seems new, it’s still a form of influence and can be a smart move for
influencers and brands. Millie Kendall, from the British Beauty Council, points out, “De-influencing
is a bit tricky. It’s telling people what to avoid but can still suggest other products.” With rising living
costs, people are less likely to buy expensive items, making cheaper products more appealing. Being
honest about the products and even “de-influencing” them can pay off, too. Criticising big brands
might hurt short-term deals for influencers but could build their reputation for trustworthiness over
time. Also, debating whether a product works can drive sales, as people want to try it themselves.
So, is de-influencing here to stay? It will have its moment, yet trends come and go quickly. Once
the next big product goes viral, de-influencing will be yesterday’s news. Whether de-influencing is a
lasting movement or a temporary reaction, its message could make consumers become more mindful
of their purchases and not splurge on big-ticket items.
32. What is de-influencing meant to do?
A. To increase social media usage.
B. To remind us to think twice before a purchase.
C. To promote expensive brands on social media.
D. To encourage us to buy more trendy products.
33. What led to de-influencing according to Paragraph 2?
A. TikTok influencers wore false eyelashes.
B. TikTok influencers spread genuine thoughts.
C. TikTok influencers promoted unaffordable items.
D. TikTok influencers advertised untrustworthy goods.

34. What can be inferred about de-influencing from Paragraph 3?
A. It may lessen people’s shopping desire.
B. It can enable influencers to make profits.
C. It has no impact on consumption choices.
D. It will ruin influencers’ reputation for honesty.
35. What do the underlined words “splurge on” mean in the last paragraph?
A. Select randomly. B. Review negatively.
C. Buy uncontrollably. D. Sell dishonestly.

Living or collaborating with individuals who have different personalities or beliefs can be
challenging. 36 Below are some strategies beneficial to healthy relationships.
37 Often, a personality conflict arises from expectations, differences in opinions, or
some other underlying issues. Determining the sources of your problem with a person may help you
realise that your conflict is foolish, which in turn may help you build a positive relationship with the
person.
Consider the other person’s perspectives. People each have their own viewpoints that are formed
based on their experiences. 38 You cannot begin to change your relationship with the person
until you acknowledge that former experiences do construct people’s ideas and that your truth is not
the only or right view.
See the positive qualities in the person. Sticking to negative thoughts and feelings about someone
is exhausting. 39 Even the most difficult person possesses positive virtues. While it may take
time for you to realise these qualities, recognising the good in a person can open the door to a fair
chance.
Limit contact with the person. Being frequently around someone intolerable can greatly affect
your mindset. Cutting down or off contact with the person can help lower the stress you feel in his or
her presence. Sometimes, however, engaging with them is required, whether in a professional or
personal setting. 40
A. Identify the roots of your conflict.
B. Free yourself from your expectations.
C. If avoidance isn’t possible, do keep the interaction civil and decent.
D. Everything a person has gone through brings him to where he is now.
E. It can provide context information that helps you accept the person as he or she is.
F. If you continuously nurture them, you will probably suffer depression and tiredness.
G. Yet, developing the ability to handle these differences is vital for your mental well-being.

第二节(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In a remote town distant from urban life, Peter lived with his mother. His pastime involved
exploring the breathtaking forest nearby. At the heart of it lay a crystal-clear pond, where lively fish
danced beneath the surface. The surroundings were alive with charming wildlife. Deer and rabbits played
about, while melodious birdsong filled the air.
Enchanted by the beauty and liveliness of nature, Peter resolved to become a great artist to share
these fascinating scenes with the world. He attended the local primary school, but life had been
challenging for Peter and his mother since his father passed away. Aware that his mother worked hard
to make ends meet, Peter was hesitant to cause her any worry.
While his mother recognised the importance of education, she opposed Peter’s dream of
becoming an artist. She frequently said, “Being an artist can’t help a person in meeting his daily
expenses.” However, Peter’s passion for art grew stronger with each passing day.
Due to their financial conditions, even buying new paints was a luxury. Peter relied on a worn
drawing board and limited paints for his daily practice. Despite the lack of appropriate tools, he never
abandoned his dream. He spent much time in the forest, secretly sharpening his skills. His drawings
became increasingly beautiful through his persistent efforts and with his natural talent for art.
One day, Peter learned about a competition in town with a deadline just two days away. This was
a perfect opportunity to achieve his dream, but he faced a dilemma. The competition required special
paints and brushes which he didn’t possess. Knowing his mother’s prejudice against art, Peter didn’t
dare to ask her for money.
As night fell, Peter’s mother arrived home from work and presented him with several paper notes,
explaining, “This is for your school lunches next month.” To Peter’s delight, the sum was enough to
cover what he needed. His face immediately lit up with excitement.
