GOLDEN GATE NATIONAL RECREATION AREATRAILS
For many of us, the sprawling and spectacular trail system at Golden Gate is how we experience the parks and
encounter their many wonders. Trails are as unique and complex as the ecosystems they help protect, or the
extraordinary people who help care for them. Introduce yourself to one of the trails in the Golden Gate National
Parks, and get ready to meet magic.
Battery East Trail
Difficulty: Easiest LENGTH: 0.80 miles round- trip
One of the signature trail improvement projects of the Parks Conservancy, the multi- use Battery East Trail
features eye- pop ping views of the soaring towers of the Golden Gate Bridge, as well as an overlook area to admire
the span and San Francisco Bay.
Alta Trail
Difficulty: Moderately Difficult LENGTH: 5.02 miles round- trip
This is a long but gradual climb from the eastern side of the Marin Headlands. This fire road is in good
condition, making for an easy route to wander along.
Baquiano Trail
Difficulty: Moderate LENGTH: 2.22 miles round- trip
Driving up to the parking area is steep, and it’s a premonition of what the trail will be like. You guessed it, the
ascent will be too. However, switchbacks make the climb much easier. Near the top of the ridge, it flattens out and
becomes a fire road.
Batteries to Bluffs Trail
Difficulty: Difficult LENGTH: 0.70 miles round- trip
Stretching from just south of the Golden Gate Bridge to Battery Crosby, the trail offers spectacular coastal
panoramas, views of the Golden Gate, and a safe descent to Marshall’s Beach.

“Xin Nongren” means “New Farmers”, which refers to young Chinese who devote themselves to sustainable
farming after quitting jobs. Shi Yan, the founder of Shared Harvest, an organic farm in the countryside north of
Beijing, is a representative of “Xin Nongren”.
Shi Yan was born in 1982 in Hebei Province. As a student at the Renmin University of China, she was
concerned about the widespread environmental damage caused by chemical- reliant farming practices. In 2008, she
travelled to the US as an intern (实习生) at Minnesota’s Earthrise Farm to see the Community Supported
Agriculture (CSA) in action. Being community- focused, CSA farms are run under organic principles. A key
element of CSA is its shared risk, membership- marketing structure, which financially protects farmers while
connecting them to consumers.
Shared Harvest is the result of what Yan learned there. Opened in 2012, it is not only a completely organic
farm but also one of the first in China to follow the CSA model. When she first started it, few had heard of CSA.
Now, there are over 1,500 CSA farms in China. Shared Harvest prides itself on natural alternatives to chemical
pesticides. Instead of chemicals, the team uses hot pepper water, for instance, to treat crop diseases.
Finding natural solutions can be time- consuming and labour- intensive, with some problems requiring weeks
of individual attention. Unsurprisingly, supplies of vegetables, eggs and meat cost about three times more than that
sold at ordinary grocery stores. It’s expensive, but Yan believes 40 percent of Beijing residents can afford green
produce. “It requires a different mindset,” she says. She not only hopes to convince the consumers, but she’s
determined to educate farmers about organic practices. “We have to understand the farmer, and using pesticides is
just like smoking. They’ re addicted to it,” she says.
24. What are typical “Xin Nongren” like?
A. They are unable to find jobs. B. They major in organic farming.
C. They choose to contribute to farming. D. They are forced to work in the countryside.
25. What is the business mode of CSA farms?
A. They are run by communities. B. They work with other farms.
C. They employ interns to do the work. D. They involve both farmers and consumers.
26. What do we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Few can afford produce from Shared Harvest.
B. Shi Yan has already practiced the new way on most farms.
C. Farmers are always fond of smoking.
D. Changes of mindset are the key to success.
27. Which of the following can best describe Shi Yan?
A. Responsible and determined. B. Generous and proud.
C. Hardworking and talented. D. Diligent and charitable.
C
White noise has long been a proper solution for drowning out background sounds and finding peace and quiet.
However, recently, its colorful competitors — pink noise and brown noise — have been gaining attention. There’s a
growing discussion around pink noise, brown noise, green noise —a rainbow of comforting sounds — and their
potential effects on sleep, concentration, and relaxation.
White noise is a consistent sound that contains all frequencies in the spectrum (频谱) of audible sound, each at
equal intensity. It’s often described as a “hissing” sound, similar to static (静电噪音) on a television or radio. White
noise is popular for making it easier for people to concentrate or sleep.
Pink noise has equal intensity per octave (八度音阶), meaning its energy is more concentrated at lower
frequencies. This results in a softer and more comforting sound than white noise. Think of the gentle rustling (沙沙
声) of leaves or the steady rain on a rooftop. Studies suggest pink noise can improve sleep quality by enhancing
deeper and longer sleep. Brown noise, also known as red noise, has even more energy at lower frequencies,
producing a deeper and more rumbling sound. Some people find brown noise particularly effective for relaxation
and reducing anxiety, as its deeper tones can have a calming effect.
Selecting the right type of noise depend s on your personal preference and the specific benefits you’ re seeking.
Pink noise may help you fall asleep faster and enjoy more restorative sleep. White noise is still a good choice for
those needing to concentrate in a noisy environment. You can choose brown noise if seeking relaxation or stress
relief.
Besides these noises, there are other colorful noises to explore. Blue noise, violet noise, and gray noise have
unique sound profiles and potential benefits. As research continues, the world of sound therapy is sure to expand
further. As more people discover the benefits of these colorful competitors, the landscape of noise therapy is
becoming more vibrant than ever.
28. What can we learn about pink noise?
A. It has deeper and lower sound than others. B. It enhances sleep of high quality.
C. It results in higher level of concentration. D. It helps make people less anxious.
29. How do people choose the suitable noise?
A. It relies on others’ preference. B. It counts on the environment you’ re in.
C. It’s up to your need. D. It’s based on your pressure.
30. What is the author’s attitude towards the future of noise therapy?
A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Indifferent. D. Critical.
31. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. The growing attention to noises of different colors. B. The various functions of soft sounds.
C. The new methods of focusing in noisy environment. D. The creative treatment for sleep problems.
D
Artificial intelligence and human relationships are often described as dangerous and widespread with moral
implications. The concept of using a robot instead of a human as a companion is controversial (有争议的). Many
would view it as a depressing symptom of isolated (孤立的) modern day living, and a breakdown of our
communities.
Some scientists, however, suggest that there may be more slight differences to this issue, claiming that it is no
different from having a pet or children who own inanimate dolls. People on the edge of social isolation could use
AI technology to help develop their social skills, building their confidence for real- world human interactions. The
technology could also be used to prevent major depressive disorders and help stabilize patients going through a
mental health crisis.
In today’s society, loneliness is a serious illness. It discourages individuals from attempting to interact with
others, further diminishing the chances of recovery and social engagement. AI could intervene in this downward
spiral (恶性循环), providing companionship to help build feelings of self- worth and foster positive emotional
states.
Although the chatbots (聊天机器人) in their current primitive state have a limit to address loneliness,
technology is rapidly improving, and soon it will be able to detect distinctions, learn personalities, and understand
humor on a level never seen before. It is vital that when this happens, adequate safeguards are in place if chatbots
are indeed to be used in a constructive manner to help the isolated. AI chatbots must have built- in protection. Users
are likely to develop close bonds with such AI companions, making it extremely important that user privacy is
protected and se cure from outside malicious exploitation.
Human beings are sociable creatures and need other people in their lives to function naturally. Without
companionship, physical and mental health suffer dramatically. Using AI to help facilitate a return to sociability and
to numb the pain of isolation is a novel concept that does hold some promise. However, fully replacing a human
relationship with AI remains risky, and applying this concept safely must be done with caution.
32. Which of the following views is controversial on the use of AI?
A. It can cause a breakdown of our communities. B. It is considered a sign of depressing symptom.
C. It is regarded as a replacement for companion. D. It can help people deal with social relationships.
33. What does the underlined word “diminishing” mean in paragraph 3?
A. Rising. B. Providing. C. Decreasing. D. Balancing.
34. Why does the author mention chatbots in paragraph 4?
A. To introduce the function of chatbots. B. To support his opinion on AI use.
C. To emphasize the benefits of AI. D. To popularize the application of AI.
35. What is the author’s suggestion on AI as companionship?
A. Resist AI as a companion firmly. B. Take the place of medicine completely.
C. Develop close relationship with AI trustingly. D. Establish a companionship with AI cautiously.

In a small town in Colorado, there lived a young boy named Jack, who was always energetic and had a strong
thirst for adventure. His eyes always sparkled with sense of wonder whenever he looked at the world around him.
These enormous peaks of the Rocky Mountains were more than just a geographical feature for him. They were a
constant source of inspiration and a call to adventure.
At the age of 13, he developed a strong interest in rock climbing when his school organized a trip to a local
climbing gym. As soon as he put on the climbing shoes and felt the artificial rocks beneath his fingertips, he was
hooked. The gym was a have n for him, a place where he could test his physical limits and learn the art of climbing.
Later, he eagerly attended every climbing class there, acquiring knowledge from the experienced instructors. He
learned the basic techniques such as proper footwork, how to distribute his weight evenly, and the crucial safety
rules.
However, the artificial walls of the gym could not satisfy his longing for real challenges. He dreamed of
conquering the natural peaks of the Rockies. He would often stand at the edge of town, gazing eagerly at the
mountains, his mind filled with thoughts of conquering their majestic heights.
One day, Jack heard about a challenging climbing route on a nearby mountain. It was known for its steep cliffs
and difficult hand- and- foot holds (支撑点). Many experienced climbers had failed. But Jack was not stopped. He
spent weeks preparing for this climb, training his body by doing strength exercises and improving his balance. He
also studied the route as much as he could, looking at pictures and reading accounts from those who had tried it
before.
When the day of the climb finally arrived, Jack set off early in the morning. The initial part of the climb was
relatively easy, but as he went up higher, the difficulties began to mount. The rocks were slippery, and the wind was
strong, making it hard for him to maintain his balance. At one point, Jack found himself unable to find a good hold.

Dear Eric,
I’m glad to hear that you’ re in charge of decorating the Chinese Classroom! I have some suggestions for you.
Firstly, I recommend hanging Chinese paper lanterns. They are bright and colorful, representing happiness and
celebration in Chinese culture. They will give the classroom a warm, festive atmosphere. Additionally, you could
display some Chinese calligraphy scrolls. They not only showcase the beauty of the Chinese language but also
reflect our cultural appreciation for art and wisdom.
These decorations will create a traditional Chinese atmosphere and make the classroom more authentic. I hope
these suggestions help!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分 25 分)
Doubt started to spread in his mind. But then he remembered all the reasons why he had started this climb —
his love for the mountains, his desire to prove himself, and his pursuit of growth. With the determination rebuilt,
Jack carefully scanned the rock face and finally found a small crack that he could use to pull himself up. Despite
the increasing obstacles as he went up, never would he give up halfway. After several hours of intense climbing,
Jack finally reached the summit.
The view from the top was breathtaking. Everything was rewarding — the entire town below, the vast expanse
of the forest, and the winding rivers. Tears welling up in his eyes, he felt a sense of accomplishment that he had
never experienced before, which would fuel his future adventures and his continuous pursuit of growth. Jack’s story
will inspire many of the other teenagers in his town, showing them it is with courage and determination that they
can take on any challenge and achieve great heights.
