Allen stood frozen, his heart sinking. Suddenly, he caught sight of the red socks. He knew the

reason for the accident. With no means of handling the situation, Allen was in such a panic that he

at Allen, “ Never mind, dear. I know you meant to help.” Then mom held the dress up before her

听力原文

Text1

M: I've got two more classes today. I'll call you after classes. (1)

W: I have to go to the gym anyway, so let's just meet at the movie theater.

Text2

W: Doctor, I’ve been experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath. What could it be?

M: It's best if we run some tests to determine the cause. (2)

Text3

W: Oh, thankfully, this store seems to have everything we need.

M: Yeah, it provides various school supplies. I already bought a bunch of folders and notebooks

here last week. And after today's art class, I realize that I also need a pair of scissors. (3)

Text4

W: Sorry I’m late. Have you been here long?

M: Only ten minutes. I left home at 6:05 and got here at 6:35.(4)

W: Well, the concert is in twenty minutes. (4) If we hurry, we can make it.

Text5

M: How about choosing environment for our project?

W: This topic is too broad. We should try to narrow it down. What about recycling? The other

groups are concentrating on pollution. So this will be nice and different.

M: Sounds great!

Text6

W: Hello, is that Mike speaking?

M: No. He is out for a walk and won’t be back until 7:30. May I take a message?

W: Yes. I'm supposed to meet him at the library tomorrow morning. Would you ask him to check

if he has my dictionary? (6) If he does, tell him to bring it along.

M: All right.

W: Thanks. By the way, tell him I can't go to the library until 10, instead of 9.(7)

M: OK. I will tell him.

Text7

W: Can I borrow a pencil from you? Mine just broke.

M: Oh, okay. Here you go.

W: Thanks. How did you do your last night's homework?

M: Not very well. I got most of the questions wrong. I'm just not very good at science. (8) How

about you?

W: I did okay, but I’m not best at science either. My strongest subject is English.

M: Mine is math. Don’t forget to give that pencil back after class.(9) It’s the only one I have

except the one I'm using.

W: Don’t worry. I won’t forget.

Text8

M: We’ve been working for an hour or so. Do you want to take a break?

W: Ah, that would be good.

M: Well, what have you done so far?

W: I’ve put all the knives and forks out on the tables. (10)(11)

M: What about the menus?

W: Oh, dear! I haven’t put them on the tables yet. I’ll do that later. Um. .. I’ve put flowers on

everytablebut1stillneed to put the salt and pepper out. (10)(11)

M: You also need to put glasses on all the tables. I notice that there aren’t glasses on all the tables.

W: Sorry, I just … forgot.

M: That's OK. We've still got an hour. Before we open, we should light the candles. But I don’t

want to do that yet. Maybe 45 minutes later, just before the service time. (10)(12)

Text9

W: This is the admissions office. How can I help you? (16)

M: I’m looking for information about applying to school for the fall semester. When is the closing

date for application?

W: Your application should be emailed no later than May 1st.(13) We review applications in May,

and then invite people to have interviews in June. After the interview, you should know within two

weeks if you have been accepted. The start date of the program is September 3rd.

M: Okay. How many people usually apply for the program and how many are accepted each year?

W: It really depends. In some years, we have a large number of applicants, and in other years, we

hardly have anyone applying. Last year, we had fifty applicants, (14) and we accepted twenty. Of

those twenty, seventeen decided to come to our school.

M: And do you offer financial aid?

W: We do. We have a scholarship program, which you can find out about on our website. We’re

having an open house at the beginning of the month, if you’d like to join us. (15) It’s on January

2nd at 7:30 pm.

M: I will surely be there.

Text 10

Good morning and welcome to the Food and Drink Show. I'm Christine Whitelaw and I work

as a personal assistant to the world - famous cook Patrick Miller. (17) I always wanted to work in

this industry so after leaving school I spent a year on a cookery course before spending another

year at a secretarial college. (18) Then I worked as a PA to a director of the Palace Hotel in

London for three years before hearing that Patrick Miller was advertising for a new PA. I applied,

had two interviews and got the job.

I usually meet Patrick first of all to run through his diary and letters. If customers expect lunch, I

may take them on a pre-lunch tour of the cookery school. (19) It has a collection of 6, 000 cookery

books. Then I take them to the restaurant. (19) If Patrick is busy in the mornings, we sometimes

have a working lunch together in his office. I do enjoy cooking but I have no plans to work as a

cook. The job I have combines everything I love: food, meeting people and being someone’s right

hand. (20)
